Creative Zone <3

Yesterday I cut my hair at Creative Zone in Uppsala! I haven’t been to a hairdresser in ages, but I’m so glad I went to Creative Zone!
Helena cut my hair; she was responsive to my desires, very creative and talented but also easy to talk to and funny! Can I take you with me to Japan, Helena? 😀 Haha!

In Creative Zone they use products from Hårologi. They’re not tested on animals and don’t contain any animal by products (this email is translated from Swedish):

Desert Essence – Coconut Conditioner

Do you do animal testing on any of your products?
No, as company, we do not believe in animal testing of any of our products or ingredients used in making them. We require all our ingredient suppliers to abide by this same principle.
Are all your products Vegan?
While all our products are 100% vegetarian, not all are vegan. The Organics line, excluding the new Mineral Sunscreen which contains beeswax, is 100% vegan. Although several of our products have small amounts of beeswax and honey in their formulas, no animals are ever harmed to get these ingredients. Refer to the Details tab at the bottom of each product page for information to find out if a product is vegan or not.

Hi guys!

Today I’m gonna show you a conditioner I’ve been using; Desert Essence Coconut Conditioner!

Desert Essence has some vegan friendly products and they don’t test on animals. This is what they say about it:

Do you do animal testing on any of your products?
No, as company, we do not believe in animal testing of any of our products or ingredients used in making them. We require all our ingredient suppliers to abide by this same principle.

So look out for beeswax and honey!
Desert Essence are also certified by Leaping Bunny 🙂

This conditioner is really good; it’s moisturizing without weighing the hair down and you can also use it if you’re into no poo (no shampoo). The hair is easy to comb through when using this conditioner; but you may need something more heavily moisturizing now and then if you have very dry hair.

If you live in Sweden you can order it at Kissed By Eco! 🙂

Karawan

Dear Basma,

No we don’t have any test on animals for the finished products or the ingredients because we use natural products. Why should we pay for testing olive oil on animals?
:=))

We don’t use any animal derived ingredients but natural vegetal ingredients.
Look at our website the ingredients of each products are on the web site.

Have a good day.

Best regards

Marc Carbonare
Karawan Authentic

Karawan have so called Aleppo soaps which are mentioned a lot if you read about “no poo”. These soaps are made out of olive oil, water and sodium hydroxide (not left in the finished product) and can be used as a body wash and shampoo. They also have other products that are very interesting!

The company’s fair trade and they’re also eco friendly. Their products are made out of natural materials and they also help to keep families that work with this craftsmanship economically supported through lasting relations. Read more about their ethical policy here. Lovely! 🙂

I also emailed Karawan about animal testing and this is the reply I got:

Dear Basma,

No we don’t have any test on animals for the finished products or the ingredients because we use natural products. Why should we pay for testing olive oil on animals?
:=))

We don’t use any animal derived ingredients but natural vegetal ingredients.

Haha, so there you have it! 😉 You can definitely be more sure that the workers really get payed with Karawan and you’ll also get high quality products.
No chemicals or other nasty ingredients! Their products also makes nice gifts! 🙂

In Sweden, they’re available at softskin.se!

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps – 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint

Why do you use organic beeswax in your lip and body balms?

Although our line is otherwise vegan, we do use certified organic beeswax in the lip and body balms. We could not find a certified organic plant-based wax, and Sue anyway insisted that she has not found a plant-based alternative that can substitute for the amazing qualities of beeswax: based on her experience and extensive training and mentoring under the Native American herbalist Keewaydinoquay, Sue formulated her original lip balms with just avocado oil and beeswax, because beeswax has natural antibacterial and sunblock qualities and provides a superior barrier to keep moisture in. We buy our certified organic beeswax from New Zealand, and we checked to make sure that the queens are not killed each year as happens sometimes with conventional beekeeping to maximize yields.

What are the uses and dilutions for your soap?

Although the label claims eighteen uses, we do not have the space to write all these uses on the label and still accommodate for my grandfather’s philosophy, as well as the new labeling laws that are periodically implemented. In reality, there are far more than eighteen uses, as people constantly write in to tell us about yet another utility of the soap. We won’t detail them all, but below are some of the major uses and dilutions.

For everyday body-washing: Get wet and pour soap full-strength onto hands-washcloth-loofah. Lather up, scrub down, rinse off, and tingle fresh and clean.

For other uses, dilute from one part soap into 40 parts water for light cleaning, to cutting it in half or using it full strength for heavy-duty grease-cutting jobs.

For shampoo, people have been telling us for years that they like using our soaps to shampoo their hair. Now, paired with our new Citrus Conditioning Rinse and Organic Leave-In Conditioning Crème, it works better than ever. For details, click here.

For the laundry, use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load; adjust as needed depending on hardness of water. I’ve been told that adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better.
For pets, lather up well and apply to their body. Be careful to keep the soap and the lather away from their eyes. I find a mixture of peppermint and eucalyptus works best.

For toothbrushing, apply a drop or two of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap (I prefer the peppermint) to a wet toothbrush. Brush as you normally would, rinsing accordingly. Be careful about using more than a couple drops of soap, as you might start foaming at the mouth (last time I checked “rabid chic” was not hip). Many people with sensitive or softer teeth like to use our soap as toothpaste because it lacks abrasives.

What are the 18-in-1 uses?

Dr. Bronner recorded the “18 in 1 uses” on his label, which we have left mostly intact since his passing in 1997; however, people have told us many, many more uses for it than that. Here is his version. A more paraphrased one follows.

Dr. Bronner’s version:

  1. Always dilute for Shave-Shampoo-Massage-Dental Soap-Bath!
  2. Peppermint is nature’s own unsurpassed fragrant Deodorant!
  3. A drop is best Mint Toothpaste; brushes Dentures Clean!
  4. A dash in water is the ideal Breath Freshener & Mouth Wash!
  5. Peppermint Oil Soap for Dispensers, Uniforms, Baby, Beach!
  6. Dilute for ideal After Shave, Body Rub, Foot Bath, Douche.
  7. Hot Towel-Massage the entire body, always towards your heart.
  8. Pets, silk, wool & body tingles head to toe – keeps cool!
  9. 3 dashes in water rinse most Sprays Off fruit & vegetables!
  10. 1/4 oz in qt H2O is Pest Spray! Dash, no rash Diaper-Soap!

Paraphrased:

  • For everyday body-washing: Get wet and pour soap full-strength onto hands-washcloth-loofah. Lather up, scrub down, rinse off, and tingle fresh & clean.
  • For other uses, dilute from one part soap into 40 parts water for light cleaning, to cutting it in half or using it full strength for heavy-duty grease-cutting jobs.
  • For shampoo, though we now recommend our new Shikakai soaps for this, many people are fond of using it as such. The method of application is to wet hair and scalp very thoroughly, squirt some soap into hands and work into a lather. Wash hair, then rinse well. Afterwards use our new citrus hair rinse and leave-in conditioners as directed.
  • For the laundry, use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load; adjust as needed depending on hardness of water. I’ve been told that adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better.
  • For toothbrushing, apply a drop or two of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap to a wet toothbrush. Brush as you normally would, rinsing accordingly.

Hi guys!

Today I’m gonna write about  Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in the Peppermint version.

Dr. Bronner’s don’t contain any chemicals or other yucky ingredients. They’re Fair Trade and Organic as well, yay! They don’t contain any SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) either which lathering soaps/shampoos often contain to achieve lather. The lathering qualities of Dr. Bronner’s come from organic coconut oil!

This is what they say about their vegan products and why they use beeswax in their balms:

They don’t test on animals and they’re also on PETA’s list of companies that don’t test on animals.

These soaps can be used for 18 different purposes (or more)! This is what they say about it on their FAQ:

Cool huh? 😀 I’ve also heard that you can do your dishes with them and more.

So far, I’ve used it as a shower gel and also tried brushing my teeth with it; it feels like washing your body with a mint pastille! 😀 If you’re sleepy, showering with the Hemp Peppermint-version sure will wake you up! Next time I’ll get another scent/version that isn’t as strong to use as a body wash, haha.

As far as using the Peppermint-version as a tooth paste, it’s great! My teeth felt really clean and it’s minty with a nice lather!

I love organic and clean products like these! 🙂
If you want one product with many uses, this is the one!
