Dr Bronner’s – For hands and body – Organic lotion – Lavender Coconut

The perfect light lotion, easily applied, sinks in fast,  makes the skin soft and also has a pump so you don’t need to mess with the bottle while applying! 🙂

The scent can be a bit strong if you’re sensitive. It smells mostly lavender, but it disappears after a few hours though! Thumbs up!

They recently started selling Dr Bronner’s at Åhléns which is a shopping mall in Sweden and the lotion cost 139 kr (about 20 USD)!

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps – 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint

Why do you use organic beeswax in your lip and body balms?

Although our line is otherwise vegan, we do use certified organic beeswax in the lip and body balms. We could not find a certified organic plant-based wax, and Sue anyway insisted that she has not found a plant-based alternative that can substitute for the amazing qualities of beeswax: based on her experience and extensive training and mentoring under the Native American herbalist Keewaydinoquay, Sue formulated her original lip balms with just avocado oil and beeswax, because beeswax has natural antibacterial and sunblock qualities and provides a superior barrier to keep moisture in. We buy our certified organic beeswax from New Zealand, and we checked to make sure that the queens are not killed each year as happens sometimes with conventional beekeeping to maximize yields.

What are the uses and dilutions for your soap?

Although the label claims eighteen uses, we do not have the space to write all these uses on the label and still accommodate for my grandfather’s philosophy, as well as the new labeling laws that are periodically implemented. In reality, there are far more than eighteen uses, as people constantly write in to tell us about yet another utility of the soap. We won’t detail them all, but below are some of the major uses and dilutions.

For everyday body-washing: Get wet and pour soap full-strength onto hands-washcloth-loofah. Lather up, scrub down, rinse off, and tingle fresh and clean.

For other uses, dilute from one part soap into 40 parts water for light cleaning, to cutting it in half or using it full strength for heavy-duty grease-cutting jobs.

For shampoo, people have been telling us for years that they like using our soaps to shampoo their hair. Now, paired with our new Citrus Conditioning Rinse and Organic Leave-In Conditioning Crème, it works better than ever. For details, click here.

For the laundry, use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load; adjust as needed depending on hardness of water. I’ve been told that adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better.
For pets, lather up well and apply to their body. Be careful to keep the soap and the lather away from their eyes. I find a mixture of peppermint and eucalyptus works best.

For toothbrushing, apply a drop or two of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap (I prefer the peppermint) to a wet toothbrush. Brush as you normally would, rinsing accordingly. Be careful about using more than a couple drops of soap, as you might start foaming at the mouth (last time I checked “rabid chic” was not hip). Many people with sensitive or softer teeth like to use our soap as toothpaste because it lacks abrasives.

What are the 18-in-1 uses?

Dr. Bronner recorded the “18 in 1 uses” on his label, which we have left mostly intact since his passing in 1997; however, people have told us many, many more uses for it than that. Here is his version. A more paraphrased one follows.

Dr. Bronner’s version:

  1. Always dilute for Shave-Shampoo-Massage-Dental Soap-Bath!
  2. Peppermint is nature’s own unsurpassed fragrant Deodorant!
  3. A drop is best Mint Toothpaste; brushes Dentures Clean!
  4. A dash in water is the ideal Breath Freshener & Mouth Wash!
  5. Peppermint Oil Soap for Dispensers, Uniforms, Baby, Beach!
  6. Dilute for ideal After Shave, Body Rub, Foot Bath, Douche.
  7. Hot Towel-Massage the entire body, always towards your heart.
  8. Pets, silk, wool & body tingles head to toe – keeps cool!
  9. 3 dashes in water rinse most Sprays Off fruit & vegetables!
  10. 1/4 oz in qt H2O is Pest Spray! Dash, no rash Diaper-Soap!

Paraphrased:

  • For everyday body-washing: Get wet and pour soap full-strength onto hands-washcloth-loofah. Lather up, scrub down, rinse off, and tingle fresh & clean.
  • For other uses, dilute from one part soap into 40 parts water for light cleaning, to cutting it in half or using it full strength for heavy-duty grease-cutting jobs.
  • For shampoo, though we now recommend our new Shikakai soaps for this, many people are fond of using it as such. The method of application is to wet hair and scalp very thoroughly, squirt some soap into hands and work into a lather. Wash hair, then rinse well. Afterwards use our new citrus hair rinse and leave-in conditioners as directed.
  • For the laundry, use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load; adjust as needed depending on hardness of water. I’ve been told that adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better.
  • For toothbrushing, apply a drop or two of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap to a wet toothbrush. Brush as you normally would, rinsing accordingly. Be careful about using more than a couple drops of soap, as you might start foaming at the mouth. Many people with sensitive or softer teeth like to use our soap as a toothpaste because it lacks abrasives.

Hi guys!

Today I’m gonna write about  Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in the Peppermint version.

Dr. Bronner’s don’t contain any chemicals or other yucky ingredients. They’re Fair Trade and Organic as well, yay! They don’t contain any SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) either which lathering soaps/shampoos often contain to achieve lather. The lathering qualities of Dr. Bronner’s come from organic coconut oil!

This is what they say about their vegan products and why they use beeswax in their balms:

They don’t test on animals and they’re also on PETA’s list of companies that don’t test on animals.

These soaps can be used for 18 different purposes (or more)! This is what they say about it on their FAQ:

Cool huh? 😀 I’ve also heard that you can do your dishes with them and more.

So far, I’ve used it as a shower gel and also tried brushing my teeth with it; it feels like washing your body with a mint pastille! 😀 If you’re sleepy, showering with the Hemp Peppermint-version sure will wake you up! Next time I’ll get another scent/version that isn’t as strong to use as a body wash, haha.

As far as using the Peppermint-version as a tooth paste, it’s great! My teeth felt really clean and it’s minty with a nice lather!

I love organic and clean products like these! 🙂

Suki Skin Care!

  • we source fair trade, organic, biodynamic & local whenever possible, always considering fuel emissions & travel distances.
  • all of our ingredients are cruelty-free. we never test on animals & ensure that every one of our suppliers also adheres to our core philosophy of do no harm.
  • many of our products are vegan. the only animal product we use is 100% natural beeswax, which is bought from farms that do not harm bees or burn hives.

Hi guys!

Today I’m gonna write about a brand that Kathleen wrote to me about.
Suki Skin Care have skin care, hair care and some make up. Most of the make up seem to contain beeswax though. You can check out their homepage and just click on “Ingredients” on the products you’re interested in.

This is part of their policy:

  • we source fair trade, organic, biodynamic & local whenever possible, always considering fuel emissions & travel distances.
  • all of our ingredients are cruelty-free. we never test on animals & ensure that every one of our suppliers also adheres to our core philosophy of do no harm.

They’re also on PETA’s list of companies that don’t test on animals, nice! 🙂

Here is their store locator.

Has anyone out ther tried out their products? What do you think?

Shea butter

This week I tried shea butter; it’s great against cracks in the skin, dry skin and all types of stretch marks. Since I’ve had a cold, my nose has been super dry; so I tried it on my nose and as a lip balm. It really worked and my lips are also really soft!
Coconut oil is also great but shea butter is more fatty and softer when not melted (it melts on the skin) and that’s why it’s better when you have really dry skin. Some also use it on eczema and there are a lot of other uses.

I also used it on my feet; massage it in after using a foot file, put on some socks and wait for the magic to happen! Amazingly soft feet! 🙂 The only downside is the scent; it smells nutty and rubber at the same time. Yuck, but you’ll get used to it haha. At least I did! This is going to be a big help for dry skin this winter. I love natural products that work really well and that don’t cost a lot!
If you’re prone to allergy, don’t forget to try it out on the inside of the arm first!

This was Crearome’s raw shea butter (not oil), but there are probably a lot of other brands out there and in other countries.
